William Sheppard, MD, MPH, is an experienced orthopedic spine surgeon providing high-quality surgical care to adults in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Sheppard accepts most health insurance plans and welcomes new patients to his practice.
Dr. Sheppard studied at the University of California, Davis, earning his undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. He earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Fielding School of Public Health.
After graduation, Dr. Sheppard remained in Los Angeles and enrolled in UCLA PRIME, a five-year dual-degree medical program. He excelled in his studies, obtaining his medical degree in 2018.
Before entering private practice, Dr. Sheppard completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) at UCLA and a spine surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
Dr. Sheppard has a compassionate and patient-centered bedside manner. He performs comprehensive spine assessments on-site and uses conservative treatments like minimally invasive spine surgery and robotic surgery whenever possible. This emphasis on less invasive procedures helps patients heal quickly and return to their routines sooner than open orthopedic surgery.
Away from the office, Dr. Sheppard enjoys honing his surgical skills and learning. He’s a member of several professional organizations, including the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the North American Spine Society. He’s active in the surgical community, frequently speaking at events and contributing to professional publications.
